Qantas flags free wifi, more Miranda

By

Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr will star in a new advertising push for Qantas Club airport lounges.

Principally, Ms Kerr is meant to lure a younger generation of flyers away from Qantas’s more youthful rival, Virgin Australia, which has unveiled its own franchise of airport lounges after making an aggressive entrance into the corporate travel market last year.

Qantas says the campaign is “designed to engage with current members, attract new members and highlight the many benefits of Qantas Clubs for both business and leisure travellers.”  The advertisements — which will appear in airport terminals, on billboards and online — will reportedly cost in the neighbourhood of $1 million and comes amid Qantas’s largest marketing push in years.

Qantas Clubs are available to Platinum and Gold frequent flyers and can be accessed by other travellers for a fee. The lounges are located at most major Qantas ports, with one set to open at Gold Coast Airport later this year.

Meanwhile,Qantas has announced plans to offer free wifi internet access at its terminals in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, replacing paid access from October. Free wifi is already available at Qantas Club lounges.
