Monday Travel Ticker: Competitors Match United Fare Hike, American Unveils In-flight Amenities, JetBlue Extends Schedule

It looks like United Airlines’ $4 to $10 round trip fare increase is going to stick. US Airways, American, Delta and, importantly, Southwest matched the increase over the weekend, according to J.P. Morgan airline analyst Jamie Baker. Southwest carries more domestic passengers than any airline and is seen as an industry price setter. The increase is the fourth fare increase this year, half the number of a a year ago, according to FareCompare.com…. American Airlines today said more than 200 new planes it has on order will be outfitted with seatback entertainment, power ports at every seat and in-flight Wi-Fi. They also will will have a section of seats with extra legroom – for a fee. The planes will be added to the fleet in stages through 2017. The airline also said it plans to offer flat-bed seats in first and business class on select transcontinental flights…JetBlue Airways, which offers non-stop service between Phoenix and New York and Boston, has opened its schedule through April 30.
